Dr. Andrew Frankel is a consultant nephrologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, with over 25 years of experience in managing all aspects of kidney disease, specialising in the intersection of kidney disease and diabetes management. His research focuses on understanding the impact of diabetes on kidney function and how kidney disease, in turn, affects diabetes management. Dr. Frankel has been a leading figure in the transformation of kidney care for individuals with early chronic kidney disease, contributing to national initiatives and publishing extensively on kidney complications in people with diabetes and obesity. 

He has played a pivotal role in shaping UK national guidelines, serving as joint editor of the UK Kidney Association’s guidelines on the use of SGLT2 inhibitors in chronic kidney disease and the JBDS National Guidelines for diabetes management in individuals on dialysis. Dr. Frankel has also demonstrated significant leadership in medical education, having served as the Director of Imperial’s Foundation School, London Lead for Foundation Training, and Postgraduate Dean for South London, where he has made a lasting impact on the training and development of future healthcare professionals.
